The Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) has recently updated its series of Recommended Technical Bulletins (RTBs), providing authoritative standardized guidance for the inspection, maintenance, and operation of refrigerated containers worldwide.

The comprehensive updates span multidimensional specifications from structural repairs to preventive maintenance. For structural rehabilitation, RTB 012 (effective December 5, 2025) introduces supplemental repair protocols for gooseneck tunnels, while RTB 011 (January 17, 2024) and RTB 007 (January 22, 2021) establish clear parameters for lockrod repair limitations, corner protector plates, and top rail extension panel restoration—ensuring post-repair structural integrity complies with safety requirements.

RTB 010 highlights operational hazards when refrigerated containers are improperly used for dry cargo shipments, whereas RTB 001 provides a detailed analysis of irreversible damage caused by sulfur dioxide (SO₂) when used as a grape fumigant.
